From T-Levels to apprenticeships: how we’re supporting students on site

You’ll no doubt have heard us talking about our brilliant Design, Surveying & Planning T-Level student, Marley (or been lucky enough to meet her!).

We’ve been so impressed by the value a hard-working, ambitious T-Level student brings to the Hawes Construction Group team. Combining that with our continual commitment to supporting the next generation to grow their careers in construction, it was a no-brainer to introduce more students to the team.

Meet T-Level student Marley, Level Two Carpentry apprentice Matthew, and Management Trainee Molly Wild, who’s studying her Degree Apprenticeship in Chartered Surveying and Project Management at the University of Brighton.

Inviting educators to come see students on site

Demonstrating our values of pride and ownership, we were thrilled to welcome Donna Harfield, Vice Principal of East Sussex College Group, to one of the live client sites we’re currently working on. Donna joined us as part of National Apprenticeships Week, primarily to see how the students at the college were finding life working with local employers.

Donna was incredibly warm, encouraging and enthusiastic to chat to the students and see what it was like working with us here at Hawes Construction Group. (Thankfully, we received glowing reviews!). She also had chance to talk to the wider team about the impressive tools the college used to help improve apprentices’ knowledge and skills – something Sarra was able to see first-hand at a recent employer event on Eastbourne Campus.

Opportunities to work and study with Hawes Construction Group

It’s vital to have these ongoing, transparent conversations about opportunities for the young people finding their place in the world. These partnerships we’ve built – and continue to grow – with local education groups and colleges, like East Sussex College Group, are crucial to delivering these chances for young people.

If you’re interested in finding out more about T-Level opportunities, take a look at the courses on offer at East Sussex College. Their two-year courses are the equivalent of three A-Levels, and you can choose from a range of different pathways according to your career aspirations and interests. Plus, there’s a three-month industry placement on offer for each course, so who knows – you may be the next T-Level student we welcome at Hawes Construction Group!

If you’re considering a degree apprenticeship at the University of Brighton, like Molly, their courses are a fantastic mix of academic study and on-the-job training. As one of their apprenticeship students, you’ll spend most of your time in the related workplace – perhaps ours! – with typically one day per week studying at the university. You can find out more here.

Both the T-Levels and apprenticeships highlighted here are funded by the Construction Training Board (CITB).

Thank you …

… to Donna, her wider team, and everyone else making these work experience opportunities possible for people like Marley, Molly and Matthew. We’re so proud to support you.
