Project
St Michael’s Hospice, Hastings
Client
St Michael's Hospice
Duration
6 weeks & 7 weeks
The Brief
- We carried out two projects with the hospice during 2024 and 2025
- Our brief was to carry out targeted refurbishments to improve patient and workforce experience in key areas of the hospice while ensuring minimal disruption to its vital operations.
- The first phase focused on refurbishing seven ground-floor bedrooms, including plumbing alterations, new cladding, vinyl flooring, and ceiling decorations.
- The second phase involved reconfiguring part of the first floor to create five new office spaces designed to support multidisciplinary working. These larger, shared offices help different clinical experts – like community nurses, social workers, and doctors – to collaborate more easily, helping to deliver more joined up care and support for patients.
Our Solution
- As the hospice was operational at the time we had to liaise carefully with the hospice team to ensure disruptions and noise were kept to a minimum
- We had to take all reasonable measures to ensure dust levels were kept under control at all times.
- Ground floor bedrooms had to be cleared and prepped ready for refurbishment
Works for the Ground and First Floor phases included:-
- Opening up walls for access to remove pipework and isolating valves
- Installing access hatches
- Plastering to walls and ceilings
- Carpentry and Joinery
- M&E Works
- Decorations
- New doors
- Skirting replaced
All areas were thoroughly cleaned prior to handing over to the client.
The Result
- Refurbished bedrooms, plumbing and the creation of much-needed new office space for the hospice staff.
- We also created a tranquil space for families – a quiet haven in a place that means so much to so many.
- Both phases were completed on time and within budget and enabled the hospice to accommodate new patients.
