Sarra Hawes MCIOB

Sarra Joined Walter Llewellyn & Sons Ltd in 1988 as a Management Trainee and after completing her training became a Site Engineer/Manager, running a wide variety of contracts all over the South East of the UK.
Alongside starting a family in 1999, Sarra worked as a part-time Tenant Liaison Officer, based on site, up until 2003. Sarra then worked at David Johns Associates as a Surveyor/Office Assistant until 2005.
Following a family career break, Sarra founded Hawes Building Limited, alongside her husband Bruce Hawes (Managing Director), in April 2013. At Hawes, Sarra has the responsibility of overseeing financial matters, Business Development, Staff Training, and contract co-ordination.

Contracts Manager Jason has over 30 years industry experience and commenced his career as a site manager, with broad experience on a huge variety of project types in all sectors.
With excellent communication skills Jason develops close and harmonious relationships with all project members and communicates openly and honestly at all levels.
Jason is office based, visiting site frequently and is responsible for all construction based activities.

Graeme has many years’ experience in construction and 35 years of these have been in estimating. He has an eye for detail and very methodical approach to pricing tenders.
Graeme has experience of pricing projects from £90,000 up to £15 million, including a broad spectrum of new builds, refurbishments, commercial, health and education.
Graeme’s interests include most sports, mainly watching these days but he used to be a keen rower with Hastings and St Leonards Rowing Club. He is still actively involved in the running of the club including coordinating the annual regatta’s.
Graeme joins us from Westridge where he worked for 18 years and prior to that he worked alongside Sarra and Bruce at Walter Llewellyn & Sons.

Mark started his 44-year construction industry career in 1979 as a management trainee with Walter Llewellyn & Sons learning all aspects of estimating, site management & Quantity Surveying but finally after 2 years training decided that Quantity surveying was the way forward and spent another 22 happy years there. Moved to Westridge Construction Ltd in 2002 and spent 20 years there becoming a Senior Quantity Surveyor during that time.
He has managed all aspects of Residential, Education, Refurbishment, English Heritage, National Trust, Healthcare, and commercial projects over the years ranging from £500,000 to 8 million in value.
Responsible for all surveying duties within the company. Mark prepares and submits valuations to the clients advising cost information on variations as required to provide cost certainty for the project. Mark also places orders for materials and subcontractors in good time to comply with the programme.

Janene French

Janene joined Hawes Construction Group as a Surveyor in November 2023. Before this, she spent 17 years at Westridge Construction, starting as a Technical Trainee at just 17 years old.
Throughout her career, Janene has worked on numerous projects, with her favourite being the new Tactical Training Facility for Kent Police in Maidstone.
Currently, she is contributing to Hawes Construction Group’s largest project to date: a £1.9 million refurbishment of a private house in Meads, Eastbourne, collaborating closely with former Westridge colleagues Jason Wild and Graeme Benge.
Janene took a short career break to raise her two boys before returning to the industry.

Lisa joined the construction industry at Walter Llewellyn & Sons in 1998 as a Marketing Co-ordinator having worked in banking and private healthcare prior to that. After a few years working with the joint MD a national construction company called Rok took over and Lisa was moved to their Crawley office working with the PR and Brand team as PR & Publicity Manager for the South East.
In 2004 Lisa commenced maternity leave returning to Rok part time in 2005. After a year Lisa decided to take a short career break to help with her husband’s Health & Safety business and to raise her young family. In 2009 Lisa went back into the construction industry part time working for a local building company before joining Clarke Roofing as their Business Development Manager where she remained for 12 years. In 2024 after a short spell of semi-retirement due to illness Lisa joined her former colleagues and friends at Hawes Construction Group.

Molly joined Hawes Construction Group in March 2024 as a Management Trainee. Prior to joining Hawes Molly worked as a chef Team Leader in pub in Hastings.
Molly’s dad, Jason our Contracts Manager, influenced Molly’s decision to join the industry from a young age when she helped him on a variety of projects!
To date Molly has worked with our Estimating & Surveying Teams assisting in the pricing of one of our largest projects in Meads – the £1.9m refurbishment of a private house – and a few smaller projects which are currently on site. Twice a week Molly attends some of our sites to gain additional experience to help with her career and studies.
Every Monday Molly attends University of Brighton where she is studying for a degree in Chartered Quantity Surveying & Project Management on a degree apprenticeship over five years sponsored by Hawes Construction.

Jake Hawes, son of Bruce & Sarra, joined the company in 2016 completing four years at college training to became an NVQ Level 3 qualified carpenter. Jake has worked on, and supervised, a variety of domestic and commercial properties in and around East & West Sussex which has helped him build a wealth of knowledge within the construction industry.
The experience and knowledge gained on site gave Jake the desire and confidence to come off the tools and in January 2025 he joined the office team to head up the new Property Development division of Hawes Construction Group.

Adam has been a carpenter for over 25 years and in that time has worked on various projects including new build housing sites, renovations, timber framing, extensions, loft conversions and had the opportunity to work all over the world installing bespoke exhibitions.
In the last few years, he has become a foreman responsible for all aspects of carpentry on site and overseeing quality control and helping to train Hawes Construction Group’s apprentices.
